We decided to kick off our stay in Shenzhen a day earlier but a miscue on the rapid train really messed up our plans tonight. I thought this would be a good story to tell my grandchildren some day but I would rather not say anything on this blog.
Anyways, we had our check-in at Shenzhen ICON LAB Hotel of Ke Ji Yuan (深圳科技園 ICON LAB艾墾飯店) delayed for a few hours and it wasn't until the next morning that I finally got a good look at the hotel lobby. Quite honestly, it was a pretty weird design having the ground-floor entrance split into two halves; the left side would lead to the elevators to the commercial floors of the building while the right, that would be our hotel reception.
For the price that we were paying, the room certainly looked alright. There was enough room for the luggage and the three of us to move around.

The size of the bed, right between a single and a double, could have been a little bigger though. The linen, mattress and pillows were surprisingly comfy. In fact, much better than the ones we got from most 5-star hotels.
This was where it got a little tricky, the entrance area. We have got the shelves and cabinet on one side and then there was a small island to house the basin. I wasn't a big guy but still I needed to wiggle around especially the area between the island and toilet/bathroom.
But by far, the most disappointing part of the room (which we knew before our booking) was the absence of a window. They have intentionally put a small garden just outside the "terrace" (yes, there was a small terrace!) but it was shared with our neighbour making this even more weird.
The toilet was rather spacious and they had thrown in a Japanese-style toilet seat for good measure.
The bathroom wasn't bad either. There was probably sufficient room for me and the BIG guy to bath together.
Next morning while I was walking out for breakfast, I noticed that the queen room across from us had its door wide open. Little nugget and I went in for a quick peek and, the space and city view had both of us real impressed. If we ever came back for another stay, this would be the type of room that we're looking for. Lots of natural lights!
The best part about staying at Shenzhen ICON LAB Hotel of Ke Ji Yuan was its incredible location from MixC World (萬象天地). Just a comfortable 5-minute walk would get you there hassle-free and it made perfect sense for us to stay here since we would be spending a ton of time in this mall.
