Jelloman insisted that we should finish our 3-day trip in Shenzhen on a high note. After much deliberation, we decided to finish the trip with a roast duck feast before our rapid train leaves for West Kowloon in a few hours.
Jingwei Zhang Roast Duck Restaurant (京味張烤鴨店) is a name we know pretty well from our time spent at Wongtee Plaza (皇庭廣場) and the plan was to grab a ticket at their KKOne outpost (京基濱河時代店) just before 6pm.
Mission completed!
I have always enjoyed the throwback vibe at Jingwei Zhang’s Wongtee Plaza outpost. It’s spacious enough that you get to enjoy some privacy but not so much here. The tables were so close together and it was LOUD.
Steamed pork dumpling (豬肉三鮮水餃) (¥38) – This came with diced black fungus, mushroom and dried shrimp on top of the minced pork. After more than a half day of hard work, the kids were noticeably tired and hungry, so not surprisingly, the steamed dumplings didn’t last very long.
Stir-fried water spinach (清炒空心菜) (¥28) – I had a little too much to eat lately so this was a welcome addition before the roast duck.
Roast Duck (精品烤鴨) (¥218) – The main event tonight.
Little nugget wasted no time getting his hands dirty with the chun bung (春餅) and they have a good one here to go with the crispy skins of the roast duck.
Deep-fried shrimp balls (貴妃荔枝蝦球) (¥98) – Always a crowd pleaser and the kids love how it made its entrance. The smoky effects aside, I thought it looked a lot better than it tasted, not that the kids cared much or anything…
Our timing seemed to be perfect. Right about the time that we wrapped up the final pieces of the duck, it was almost time to leave.
