I have a lot of bedtime stories to tell my future grandchildren about and I am not sure my adventure tonight would be one of them but it has certainly made my evening an interesting one to kick off our 3-day journey in Futian. Anyways, I wasn’t going to go into details on that one.
My unexpected delay in Nanshan has pushed back our dinner plans for a couple of hours. As it was getting late, we decided to simply enjoy a quick meal at MixC World (萬象天地) where little nugget was playing his favorite arcade games. And Torisawa (鳥沢) came to our radar screen since it’s just a stone’s throw away from our hotel accommodation.
The yakitori specialist and bar has a food menu and décor closely resembling those high-end yakitori bars in Japan.
I do like the vibrant nightclub vibe at the bar area here.
Chicken wing (雞中翼) (¥28) – Very very nice. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat just done right. Minimal seasoning, I love that…
Beef tongue (牛舌) (¥88) – The fact that it arrived a few minutes after we placed our order raised a few eyebrows. This had no sign of finishing on the grill what so ever (very little charred marks) and the texture was really soft, like chewing gum. Not good. 👎🏻👎🏻
Chicken knee (雞膝盆骨) (¥28) – No crunch!
Okra (秋葵) (¥18) – Crunchy on the outside and a bit soft inside. Not bad.
Grilled Tofu (烤豆腐) (¥18) – This came piping hot front and centre. The “skin” was crispy and a little chewy at the same time.
Shoyu ramen (醬油拉麵) (¥68) – Little nugget asked for a bowl of soy sauce ramen and I wasn’t going to reject him after our long adventure tonight. The broth itself was alright (albeit a little gluey) but little one didn’t seem to like the texture of the noodles at all and he ended up only having the barbecued pork and soft-boiled egg under his own power.
Curry rice with gyukatsu (炸菲力牛排咖喱飯) (¥88) – The Japanese curry is always a nice treat to go with steamed rice. I had high hopes for the deep-fried wagyu beef tenderloin but came out a little disappointed with the less-than-succulent texture.
Not a very good meal and we were rushing through it so we could call it the night. This made it an even less enjoyable experience.
