Golden Tao Tao Ju (金牌陶陶居) at MixC World (萬象天地) has quietly become part of our lives whenever we visit Shenzhen these days and since our hotel is just a short walk to the upscale mall, it all made sense that we have our early lunch here as well.
Signature Hong Kong style milk tea (招牌港式奶茶) (¥23) – I haven't had my milk tea fix this morning so there was no surprise what I kicked off the meal with. The tea was pretty strong today and the silky texture was probably as good as any one from the local cha chaan teng. Fast start!
Tao Tao Ju jumbo prawn dumpling (陶陶居大蝦餃) (¥39) – Someone stole one of the har gow before I took my photo! 😒😒
Stir-fried rice rolls with beef briskets (牛腩啫珍珠腸) (¥36) – One of my favorite dish at Golden Tao Tao Ju and it never disappoints. The rice rolls were nicely charred so there was a bit of smoky flavors to go with the beef brisket and jus.
Stewed beef tripe (惹味金錢肚) (¥46) – I have seen it at different dim sum restaurants like Fan Lou where a simple stewed beef tripe (6 pieces) cost nearly HK$50 in Shenzhen but since Jelloman is a freak for beef tripe, I didn't object to the idea of ordering this. It tasted reasonably good but definitely not worth around $8 apiece.
Pan-fried turnip cake (香煎蘿蔔糕) (¥29) – Little nugget's favorite thanks to the crispy crust but personally, I'd like to see a bit more diced mushrooms and Chinese sausage in there.
Crispy pumpkin with salty egg yolk (鹹蛋黃金沙南瓜) (¥38) – The only item we haven't ordered before. This was OK but the salty egg yolk was a tad too overpowering for the pumpkin inside.
Jumbo-sized Guangzhou-style youtiao (安心廣式大油條) (¥16) – Very pillowy as usual. Too bad it arrived a bit late so we couldn't use it to scoop up the sauce from the rice rolls.
Two other families are coming up to join us from Hong Kong this afternoon. It should be a fun-filled long weekend for all of us.
