I was getting a little sleepy after stuffing myself with all the gorgeous-looking dishes at L'Osier. All of a sudden, we had this urge for an afternoon nap so before I passed out on the streets of Ginza, I decided to walk slowly back to our hotel instead of joining little nugget and the team at Pokémon Center.
It was then that I realized I had yet to visit Cake Factory brought to us by the folks from Cafe de Ginza Miyuki-kan. They are literally a stone's throw from our hotel, perhaps a short one-minute walk. I thought I had enough to make that walk work.
Founded in 1969, Cafe de Ginza Miyuki-kan is a western-style cake shop with a Japanese twist. They have cafés all over Ginza but this particularly outlet mainly serves take-away customers.
They exclusively use the prized chestnuts from Kumamoto Prefecture for their signature Japanese Mont Blanc cakes.
Japanese Mont Blanc (972 yen) – Presentation-wise, this is not the best Mont Blanc I've seen in Tokyo. Let's just say it won't make my top 10 Mont Blanc list.
But looks are always deceiving. I like the sweetness of the velvety chestnut purée which was right on the money. To my pleasant surprise, the entire pastry was packed with chestnut purée rather than having a centre of whipped cream (which was quite common in Japan). Not bad.
