I have a bit of an opening before meeting the gang in Odaiba at 7 tonight. Instead of taking off early for the artificial island, I decided to swing by Wako Annex Cake and Chocolate Shop (和光 別館) to kill some time.
Situated just off the busy intersection of the Ginza crossing, Wako Annex is a confectionery shop with a wide selection of cakes, chocolate and cookies made with some of the finest local ingredients.
They also have a second-floor tea salon serving delicately crafted cakes, desserts and beverages in a modern chic setting.
Unfortunately, it was getting late in the afternoon so only a few selection of pastries were left.
I didn't find anything I like but I ended up getting a Mont Blanc cake for mom as she's a big fan of marron. And here's her assessment of the cake.
Mont Blanc cake (918 yen) – The chestnut vermicelli made with a mix of French marron and Japanese ones from Kumamoto Prefecture was reasonably okay but the partnership with the caramelized dough or cake on the bottom was a little weird.
I didn't get to try this myself so I'll just have to trust her assessment on it.
