After spending the first half of the day in Chatswood, we are ready to embark on a journey to a suburb unknown to the both of us. A residential district which has been making headlines for the past couple of years. But there are still unfinished business here in Chatswood, a visit to Gelatissimo Chatswood had been planned but yet to come to fruition.
I have been unimpressed with Gelatissimo during my last few visits but I was hoping they've turned things around.
Dragonfruit and Lychee – The naturally vibrant pink vegan-friendly sorbet made with real dragon fruit and lychee looked really eye-catching and it easily stood out from over 50 different flavors on display. It was very refreshing, perhaps like having frozen dragonfruit juice. The lychee flavor, however, didn't really register.
Chunky New York Cheesecake – On the bottom of the pile was a scoop of cheesecake flavored gelato with chunks of New York Cheesecake, caramel fudge swirl and a crispy biscuit crumble. Not exactly like having New York Cheesecake but close enough.
This time around, we decided to try to re-connect with our adventurous self again and stay away from the boring flavors like tiramisu and pistachio; and I thought it paid off! Although our time in the gelato shop started off rather awkwardly when the server questioned my intention for taking all these photos (but in a friendly tone). I have been taking photos like these in 40+ countries and I can't recall how many cities my whole life and I can't remember a time that I was questioned or interrogated about it. She later explained that her owner was afraid of someone "copying their ideas" but in the F&B world, it's all about tweaking existing ideas and making them better. Who was the first to make egg tarts and vanilla custard donuts? Who the fuxk cares!
