Following a very efficient check-in at our aparthotel in Mascot, we unpacked and headed out for a quick lunch at around 3pm. We were curious of what our options would be at this hour and not surprisingly, all of the nearby eateries were already closed except for a number of family-run canteens. Since we weren't feeling very adventurous today (not for our first meal), we decided to turn our attention to the nearby bakery cafes before finally settling on Top Impression Bakery Mascot.
Top Impressionm Bakery is a very popular bakery chain which also has branches in Rhodes, Wolli Creek among other suburbs around Sydney.
This particular branch in Mascot is only a 5-minute walk from our hotel.
While the different flavors of croissants (think matcha, almond, ferrero rocher etc.) have long been their calling card, Top Impression Bakery also offer other bakery items like sausage rolls, milk and custard buns as well as a small list of cold and hot beverages.
Our lunch right here.....after all, we weren't all that hungry.
Jelloman started off with her sausage danish and I thought she mumbled "very hard"after her first bite. But I was too busy with my hoji latte and ferrero rocher croissant.
I could now relate to what Jelloman just mumbled - "hard" after tasing my ferrero rocher croisssant! This was not nearly flaky enough for a croissant; instead it was more on the hard side and too chewy. I also couldn't find the connection with ferrero rocher. The chocolate and nuts on top didn't really remind me of a ferrero rocher at all.
The fruit cruffin did look pretty nice but again, the texture failed to impress. Again, I thought the dough wasn''t flaky enough and the bottom part in particular tasted entirely like a muffin.
Other than the fresh blueberry with custard cream and raspberry jam, it was a complete failure for me.
Not a very good start to this trip as Top Impression failed to make an impression on us but we were hopeful for a much better dinner experience tonight despite the fact that we have no concrete plans yet.
