I promised little nugget another round of ramen noodles tonight. Rather than going back to a familiar spot, I decided to bring him to a new place at D2 Place called Ojisan Ramen (大叔拉麵).
At 5:30pm, the relatively new ramen shop was still pretty quiet without many diners but things would get much busier within 30 minutes so we were lucky to have seated before the crowd arrived.
A very simple Japanese decor would do the trick for most ramen shops these days.
Chicken paitan ramen with grilled Spanish Iberian pork fillet (炙燒西班牙黑豚肉雞白湯拉麵) – The presentation was, well, slightly off.
While the first impression wasn't the greatest, it won little guy over (easily) with the incredibly sweet broth. Also getting rave reviews were the perfectly executed soft-boiled egg and barbecued pork (more on that later). Needless to say, little one was a happy camper.
Beef bone broth ramen with Hakata Gensuke chicken (慢煮博多地雞和牛骨湯拉麵) –
Both the chicken paitan ramen and beef bone broth ramen are house specialties here so I decided to try the latter myself. The broth was simmered with beef bones for at least 12 hours resulting in the rich, meaty flavors.
This came with a lot more ingredients comparing to the chicken paitan ramen, including seaweed, black fungus, bamboo shoots and a couple slices of silky chicken fillets.
But the chicken was really no comparison to the barbecued pork which came with very nice smoky flavors and there was the perfect balance of fat and meat.
Spicy ramen with oysters from Hiroshima (廣島蠔赤地獄湯拉麵) – A limited-time only offering. This was served with oysters from Hiroshima, bamboo shoots and black fungus. No barbecued pork or soft-boiled egg here.
This was pretty tasty but a little too much on the spicy side thanks to that homemade chili sauce. The oysters I thought were really fresh and not surprisingly, boasted lovely briny flavors.
