Little nugget is attending his first-ever camp today at Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp (北潭涌渡假營). I bet it's going to be a lot of fun, especially when he gets to do it with his best pals. I had some memories about this place myself. One year, we did a team building exercise here. We didn't get to do the fun stuff like archery but I recalled that we played some team games, enjoyed a BBQ lunch and even played some soccer together. That was a long long time ago.
After dropping little one off, we had a quick breakfast at the canteen. It wasn't the most ideal place for breakfast to be honest. Food wasn't up to the typical cha chaan teng standard and the vibe wasn't all that inviting but we needed the fuel for our exercise ahead.
While little one was taking on his challenges at the camp, the parents had their own challenges to battle through as well. Our morning hike at Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail (北潭涌自然教育徑) was largely Jelloman's idea and I didn't object to that because I was told it was going to be a walk in the park. And it was at first.
After an hour's hike, we arrived at the river side where we had to fight our way across the river and the only passage was this broken "bridge" (if you can call it a bridge). Someone said it was the remains of a dam but really!?
The entire hiking trip took almost 3 hours and all of us made it safely to the finish line.
Everyone was exhausted and dehydrated after the 3-hour hike. Since we still have another hour and a half to burn before the kids finish their activities at the camp, we decided to drive down to Sai Kung for lunch.
Instead of a seafood feast, someone recommended Ali-Oli Bakery Cafe, a popular bakery cafe in the heart of Sai Kung for a quick lunch. That was an awesome idea!
Little nugget's favorite doughnuts!
We decided to head up to the mezzanine floor to enjoy some privacy.

It didn't take long before they finally got our dishes ready.
Spaghetti in cream sauce with smoked salmon – The creamy pasta was pretty tasty (perhaps I was too hungry). The smoked salmon was a little "overcooked" but no one was really complaining.
Sweet potato fries – The reason why I ordered the sweet potato fries was really because of guacamole sauce. Like I said many times, I'm a sucker for anything with avocado.
Curry beef pie – The cafe was supposed to be very good with pies (among other bakery goods) but this was a little disappointing, especially the dough which was way too thick for our enjoyment of the fillings inside.
The meal ended with a mediocre pecan pie, which I thought was okay considering it's been almost a year since my last pecan pie (and I am a sucker for traditional North American style pecan pie!). Now time to go back and pick up the kids.
