Maxim's Palace City Hall 大會堂美心皇宮 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

A lot of the longest-standing restaurants in Hong Kong didn't make it through the year-long pandemic. Maxim's Palace City Hall (大會堂美心皇宮) probably isn't one of the oldest in town but it always has a special place in many people's heart. Luckily, it's still around and we decided to pay a long overdue visit this afternoon.

It's pretty crazy how popular this restaurant is; but thankfully, the old folks who woke up early, came to pick up ticket more than 2 hours in advance to ensure that we had a table. 👏👏

This Maxim's Palace is absolutely huge and it's probably one of the few places in Central that still use a dim sum trolley

Little nugget is of course a little curious how this dim sum trolley works.

But he quickly lost interest cuz it's Boogie Time!

Har Gow (蝦餃) – Pretty nice and it's especially heart warming on a cool Sunday morning like this.

Steamed beef Siu Mai (乾蒸牛肉燒賣) – Not many places have this anymore. Honestly, I have never been a fan cuz of the strong fragrance from the coriander.

Stuffed fish maw with shrimp paste (百花釀魚肚) – Silky smooth. Very decent.

Baked pineapple bun with BBQ pork (菠蘿叉燒餐包) – Not bad.

Steamed ox's stomach with ginger and onion (薑蔥牛柏葉) – Never been a fan of this dish as well because all the flavors normally came from the ginger and onion. To rub salt in the wound, I thought it's a little more chewy than it should be.

Chilled coconut and sesame pudding (鴛鴦芝麻糕) – After a few more savory dishes (which I didn't take photos of), it was time for dessert and obviously, everyone was all geared up for it!

The black sesame pudding was very good today. Having it sandwiched with coconut pudding was a pretty bright idea.

Baked sago pudding (西米焗布甸) – Always a crowd pleaser and it's even more popular on a cold day like this. The lotus seed paste filling was a very good match.

Sugarcane pudding (蔗汁糕) – Very disappointing. The flavors were just way too artificial for me. Felt like it's been made out of a few packs of Vita sugarcane juice.

Black sesame sweet soup with sweet almond soup (芝麻糊加杏仁茶) – A surprisingly good match. I haven't had these two sweet soup mixed together before and it looked like I should do this a lot more often.

Following lunch, we took a pretty slow and deliberate walk around before making a stop at IFC. Finally, there's some Christmas spirit around town with all these Christmas decorations. I guess it's about time we warm ourselves up for the festive season.
