M&C Duck 美中.鴨子 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Heading into the night, our original plan was to visit Jamie's Italian at Harbour City to satisfy our craving for some classic Italian comfort food but that plan changed in a hurry when some of us decided that they wanted Peking duck a little more. Thankfully, we were able to find M&C Duck (美中.鴨子) which happened to be in the same shopping complex and to our pleasant surprise, we didn't have to queue up very long to get ourselves a table.

We have been to this place a number of times already so really didn't have to spend too much time on the menu before deciding what to order.

Pan-fried minced beef cakes ($22 per piece) - This was a very good hot starter to jump start our engine. The warm broth oozed out the moment I laid my first bite into it. Now, that's a great feeling.

Pan-fried duck egg omelette with baby oysters ($118) - I was expecting something like the oyster pancakes from chao zhou cuisine but they managed to top it with something even better. This was definitely very tasty with a crispy crust, egg and gluey potato purée wrapping around the baby oysters and green onion. Nicely done.

Barbecued Peking duck, half-bird ($158) - Finally, the dish we all came here for. The portion was not bad for the price we were paying and the meat was tender with the right amount of fat. Only if they could throw in some aromatic fragrance from apple wood, that would have been perfect.

Baked rice with diced taro and seafood in casserole ($128) - A surprisingly decent companion for the Peking duck. The creamy taro sauce on top was quite addictive.

M&C Duck was almost impossible to get in during the weekends thanks to their no reservation policy so it was good to nail it down on a weeknight. I thought their Peking duck was pretty good and well portioned while other dishes like pan fried duck egg omelette offer something a little different to the mix. It's definitely a pretty good venue for small-group gathering (if Chinese is the preferred cuisine).
