Bills Odaiba (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★☆☆☆

After an amazing lunch at Dominique Bouchet, we spent some time walking around Ginza before taking the Yurikamome to Odaiba. One of my mission there was to check out Bills Odaiba which happens to be the largest outlet in Australian chef Bill Granger's overseas empire.

Originated from Sydney, Bills' famous “best scrambled eggs” and ricotta hotcakes really got rolling the last couple of years and these days, they have already expanded to Japan (multiple cities), Seoul, London and Honolulu.

But out of all the Tokyo locations, this one in Odaiba has opened to much fanfare due to its waterfront location.

First up, let's get ourselves something to drink first. They have a pretty long lineup of non-alcoholic drinks around here with their vanilla cola (680yen) and homemade almond milk (600yen) catching my eyes instantly. But honestly, both of them were just okay.

Linguine with prawns, chili, garlic and rocket leaves (1,400yen) - When it comes to main dishes, there were plenty of choices on the menu that included fan favorites parmesan crumbed chicken schnitzel and shrimp burger with jalapeño mayo but I was looking for something lighter (especially after that heavy lunch we had) so I ended up getting myself some pasta.

Unfortunately, what could have gone wrong did go wrong here. The linguine was really overcooked. It was very soggy and lacking some big-time bite. On top of that, the seasoning was totally off the mark. This was not a good pasta dish coming from a professional kitchen!

Ricotta hotcakes, fresh banana and honeycomb butter (1,400yen) - This takes 15-20 minutes to be ready but no way were we leaving this place without trying their signature dish.

True to their words, their signature hotcakes did show up in 20 minutes, just when we were still munching away on our linguini. Both of us love the Japanese style pancakes to death and were expecting something similar but much to our disappointment, this was nothing as fluffy as we thought it would be. Sad.

Despite my slightly unhappy tummy, I was thrilled to be back to Odaiba. This night view of the Rainbow Bridge, I can never get enough of it.
