Mont-Blanc (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Once we arrived at Jiyuhaoka (自由之丘), a sweet tooth's paradise, there's no holding back. We're going all out for some of the best desserts in the area and first up was Mont-Blanc, a paradise for chestnut lovers since 1933.

As the name of the cake shop already hinted, this is a place dedicated for chestnut, which happens to be in season at the moment.

While there is a small selection of chocolate and fruit themed cakes around here, you would find the majority of the desserts largely associated with chestnut.

They have two vastly different mont blanc cakes which are hugely popular here - the traditional mont blanc one would find from most French pastry shops and then there's this Jiyuhaoka classic (yellowish one on the left) designed by Mont-Blanc.

Their chestnut cream puffs and roll cakes look pretty nice too.

Mont blanc (622yen) - The Jiyuhaoka classic versus a traditional mont blanc, that's an easy choice for me. I took the Jiyuhaoka classic in a heartbeat though I'm starting to regret it now.

This is just a cupcake topped with chestnut purée and meringue. Hidden in the middle of the cake is a pretty big piece of chestnut. I thought this was just okay; nothing to write home about although it's one that should be checked off the list if you happen to be a die-hard dessert lover.
