The meeting with my specialist finished a bit earlier than expected so I had a little Me Time to spend in the heart of Central. I started looking in the social media for new dessert shops available in the area. Lo and behold, I was delighted to find YYY House Of Cakes just a stone's throw from the clinic.
I have never heard of YYY House Of Cakes in my life but it turns out, they are a popular online cake shop who has recently ventured into their first-ever retail spot on Wyndham Street.
They have a really nicely decorated space here. Very bright and inviting, which was why I came in to have a look in the first place.
While I was still struggling to decide whether to dine in or bring some of these desserts back home, my server started briefing me about their tea set, a slice of pastry with tea or coffee at around $100. Not a bad move since I still have another half an hour to spare.
Chocolate Hazelnut – The diamond-shaped "Chocolate Hazelnut" was one of the signature desserts here, I was told.
This was right up my alley. Delicate hazelnut praline mousse with runny hazelnut ganache,
chocolate custard, sponge and crunch.
There were a lot of crunch in there with the hazelnut and chocolate, and the effects from the layering were absolutely perfect providing some lovely contrast and mouthfeel.
For my drink, I opted for a cup of Chinese black tea infused with robust scent and flavor of dried rose petals. There was this pleasant, earthy flavor in the mix. Hopefully, it will help with my stress reduction.
Well, this "afternoon tea session" really came out of left field and to my pleasant surprise, it more than exceeded my expectation. The chocolate hazelnut cake was so satisfying with its richness and crunchy texture. I could immediately tell that it came from a home grown patisserie with a lot of passion and heart.
