Madam S’ate at Elements (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Restaurant Week is always a good time for me to revisit some of the restaurants which have been forgotten over the years. Madam S'ate is a very good example. A pretty decent restaurant at Elements shopping mall which I haven't visited since they first opened a few years ago.

I have to admit $148 for a 3-course lunch menu at this prime location is a super deal.

Cod brandade - A French classic with salt cured cod and they have added their own twist by matching it with pomme purée, tortilla chips and salsa verde. I thought it wasn't bad at all but it's the first time I saw slices of cod in my brandade. Personally, I prefer it made into a fluffy kind of paste with olive oil, milk and potatoes like it usually does.

Kale and sourdough salad - While I enjoyed my cod brandade, others who were more health conscious went with this kale and sourdough salad which has been paired with pickled shallots, white anchovies and green goddess dressing.

Pan seared barramundi - While the starters didn't do enough to impress us, the main dishes made up for it with both quality and quantity. The pan-seared barramundi was well portioned and nicely prepared with vegetable ratatouille and potato chips. A pretty hearty dish.

Slow roasted US pork loin - Even better was the succulent slow roasted pork loin from US served with tarragon and nut filling, caramelized apples and hand-cut chips. Love the way the tarragon cut through the richness of the pork loin. Easily the best dish of the afternoon.

Crisp confit duck leg - I had the confit duck leg myself and it's another hearty French bistrot dish that was well prepared and executed. The creamy potato gratin had leek sandwiched in the middle to give it more flavor and texture to work with. Not bad.

Lemon meringue tart and candied nuts - Like the starters, nothing mind blowing from the desserts as well. The lemon tart with toasted nuts was decent but nothing to write home about.

Brown butter financier - A even simpler dessert compared to the lemon tart. This was composed of brown butter financier and fresh berries with dark chocolate cream on the bottom. But for $148 with all those dishes, I wasn't complaining.

Madam S'ate looks like a pretty decent choice for a weekend brunch (with pancakes from their all-day menu) at Elements. The question is, will it be enough to lure me back?
