Ohagi no Tambaya Shijo おはぎの丹波屋 (Kyoto, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Situated just a few steps from the famous Kagizen Yoshifusa Honten (鍵善良房) in Gion, Ohagi no Tambaya Emmachi (おはぎの丹波屋) is a popular Japanese sweets shop thanks to its highly affordable and delicious Japanese mochi.

There are so many different varieties, where to start!?

One of their signature sweets is their mochi with local black beans and red bean paste made with prized Azuki red beans from Hokkaido.

That's what I was talking about (left). The black beans really provided some lovely bite to the slightly chewy texture of the mochi. The green one (right) didn't possess the same bite but I was told the wrapper was made with green soy beans giving it a very unique herby flavor.

If you have just enough time for one street food in Kyoto, treat yourself to a nice Japanese mochi from Ohagi no Tambaya Emmachi. You won't regret that decision. Trust me on that!
