Londonya ロンドンヤ (Kyoto, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

I always love Kyoto. It's one of those ancient cities that you just can't get enough of its rich history and culture. One of the things I like to do in Kyoto is to soak in that rich history and culture.

Taking a stroll in old places like Shinkyogoku Shopping arcade is a great way to get started. The arcade can be found right behind the buzzy Shijo Dori (四条通).

There are many old shops in the arcade including Londonya (ロンドンヤ), a 70-year-old Japanese confectionery shop.

They specialize in a special type of sponge cakes that use traditional Japanese bean paste as fillings.

These were all done mechanically with these machines doing all the work.

Freshly made sponge cakes ready to be served!!!

I went with this one with white bean paste filling.

It was pretty spongy with a thick layer of white bean paste in the middle. Not bad.
