After grabbing breakfast at Gran Caffe Quadri yesterday morning, here we were at ABC Quadri for our last dinner in Venice before traveling to Bergamo early next morning. Like Gran Caffe Quadri and Ristorante Quadri at the same location, ABC Quadri is one of Alajmo brothers' establishments. On the menu, we could find chef Alajmo's take on Venetian and Italian classics like spaghetti with clams, fried fish, eggplant parmesan and of course, Alajmo's own cicchetti (Venetian style tapas).
Cicchetti - We couldn't possibly claim to have visited Venice without trying some of their local cicchetti so first up, a trio of small snacks from their cicchetti bar to start off the meal for us.
(From left to right): Fish burger, chicken meatball and Mariapia eggplant. Pretty tasty except the eggplant which I thought had a little too much acidity.
Dill tagliolini with seafood and Taggiasca olive sauce (29 euro) - Just a very disappointing dish from top to bottom. The tagliolini didn't carry enough bite and the olive sauce was lacking flavors. There weren't much seafood in there other than a bit of clams and fish.
Rib-eye steak with summer vegetables and herb pesto (85 euro) - I haven't had beef for almost a week so I got ourselves some rib-eye tonight. While this wasn't totally bad, I was really expecting a lot more especially for that price tag I was paying. The portion was alright but the rib-eye was way overcooked (Yeah, every single piece was almost well done). Another disappointing dish.
Every one of us was starting to miss Venice already. It's such a charming city. I would definitely come back one day.
Back to this particular dinner at ABC Quadri, well I thought like most places in Venice, it's grossly overpriced and we didn't really get our money's worth. But it's especially disappointing for me coz I expected more from a restaurant by chef Alajmo and company.
