Turrones Vicens (Madrid, SPAIN) ★★★★☆

Jamon Iberico, Spanish fans and olive oil are all popular souvenirs to bring back from Madrid but here's another option for you - Spanish sweets from Turrones Vicens.

Vicens has been making traditional Spanish sweets since 1775.

Here I find a couple of interesting sweets which are worth bringing back home.

No. 1: Agramunt’s Nougat - Vicen's Agramunt's Nougat is made with a traditional recipe which has been around since 1775 (Agramunt's Nougat is a popular traditional sweet from Catalonia by the way).

They came in the nice tall boxes as well as bulk packs like these.

Between the two sheets of rice paper are roasted hazelnuts and a very thick sauce made with egg white and honey. It's the perfect gift for anyone with a sweet tooth.

No. 2: Artisanal nougat with chocolate - This particular series draw inspirations from desserts made by Chef Albert Adrià at the famous but now defunct El Bulli. Albert Adrià who is the younger brother of the great and magnificent Chef Ferran Adrià, the mastermind behind El Bulli, is current head chef of Tickets, a Michelin one-star restaurant in Barcelona. He was formerly the head pastry chef of El Bulli.

There are about 8 to 10 different flavors to choose from. Based on my personal preference, I went with these two - Lunar Tread Nougat and White Truffle Nougat which was made with white truffles from Alba, Italy.

Meet my Lunar Tread Nougat (€5.00 each).

It's rosemary truffle with crunchy hazelnut and raspberry. I thought the chocolate was really silky smooth and richly delicious. There wasn't much of hazelnut flavor in there but the acidity from the raspberry stood out pretty nicely.
