Mid Autumn Festival is long gone but there's still a reasonable amount of Mid Autumn inspired desserts out there including this - egg custard lava cake (流心奶黄心太軟) with cheese ice-cream at HeSheEat.
But first thing first, I haven't had anything to eat all day so an eggy spaghetti carbonara to kick things off before the sweet treat. This was probably something I could make at home very easily.
Now the main event after waiting for a good 20 minutes.....
The egg cusard lava cake was nicely decorated with crushed pistachio and dabs of yogurt. I was a little excited to find out about the runny yolk...
This was a little disappointing. The egg yolk custard didn't ooze out like I originally thought it would. The combination of flavor and texture certainly wasn't bad but if it was an effort to emulate the experience of having a mooncake, then it's back to the drawing boards.
Today's lava cake really reminded me of the molten duck custard lava cake and sesame custard lava cake (芝麻流沙心太軟) at one of my favorite (former) hang-out place, Kasa (家香) in Wanchai but too bad like Mid Autumn Festival, it's long long gone.
