Our choice of accommodation in Cannes really came out of left field as our initial preference has always been to stay within the buzzy Old Town of Cannes. But further research had us convince that we probably won’t want the hustle and bustle of staying in a busy tourist area so I went on a quest to find a hotel that’s away from the hustle bustle but yet close enough to walk to the historic centre. And only one hotel returned in my search result – Hôtel Montaigne & Spa.
Hôtel Montaigne & Spa is situated on the quiet side of the seaside town but yet it’s only separated to the tourist area by one main road, Avenue Bachaga Saïd Boualam. There was valet parking (€22) offered by the folks at the hotel so I gladly dropped off my car key and check ourselves in at the reception counter.
The room we booked online was a deluxe room with plenty of space.
There was a lot of light wood and white color in the room that made us feel right at home (our humble home also predominantly decorated in white and light wood).
The bathroom was clean and spacious with very simple layout.
I noticed some noise coming from the outside the moment I stepped into the room and when I went to check it out from the window, I noticed there was a huge construction site just behind us.
My research on the hotels paid off in spade once again. We managed to find a hotel that’s clean, unpretentious and away from the tourist area, yet it’s just one main street away from the centre of the action.
Apart from being the city known for its film festival, Cannes has plenty to offer as an impressive resort town (though without many top-end beachside resorts) with its attractions, boutiques, bars and cafes. Too bad we're only here for one night.
