Following our marathon lunch at Maison Pic that lasted nearly three hours, we were finally ready to leave Valence for our next destination - Lyon. But wait, there's one more place I'd like to visit before I go.
A member of the prestigious Relais Desserts International Association, Pâtisserie Guillet is run by award-winning chocolatier and patissier Luc Guillet who has won numerous awards at the international stage as well as the ultimate prize, Best Pastry chef award in 1997. For Chef Guillet, chocolate and pastry making have always been a family tradition (50 years!). That pretty much explains why he's such as well-known figure in the patissier circle, especially in the Rhone-Alpes region.
They have a very impressive collection of French pastries. Where should we start?
Vercors - Like Guillet's signature dessert, this macaron is also named with the South-eastern town where the family came from. Underneath the chocolate coating were vanilla, nuts and caramel. Very nicely done.
Mojito - I don't think I've had a mojito macaron before. This was interesting. I'll just leave it at that.
They didn't have a name tag attached to this one but from what I remembered, it's white chocolate mousse with a hint of vanilla. There's also some nice acidity coming from the filling of raspberry (or red berries) compote. Simple but both the textures and flavors were right on the money.
Pâtisserie Guillet is located right on the edge of massive Jouvet Park. It provided the perfect venue for us to sit down and enjoy our desserts, before we move onto Lyon.
