The French pastry shop can be found on the mezzanine floor next to the hotel's Italian restaurant Trattoria Sette.
Head pastry chef Shunji Yasuda (安田俊二) is one of the top pastry chefs in Kyoto who's responsible for creating some of the most authentic French desserts in the ancient capital of Japan.
Kuri (440 yen) - This was presented almost like a Japanese mochi.
Hidden inside the chestnut purée were chestnut (with skin?), almond meringue and fresh cream. A pretty filling dessert that's perfect for winter (when chestnut is in season).
Hazelnut Orange (426 yen) - Did I ever mention that I'm a big fan of hazelnut (and walnut)?
It came with toppings of roasted nuts and orange confit.
This cake comprised of very delicate hazelnut and orange mousse, sandwiched between layers of chocolate sponge. I knew orange would mesh well with chocolate but didn't realize it would work so well with hazelnut too.
