The entire journey from Osaka to Kyoto took a little longer than I thought but I was really looking forward to Kyoto.
Rather than going outside Kyoto Station, we decided to have a quick lunch while we were still at JR Kyoto Isetan.
Kyotofu Fujino at JR Kyoto Isetan (豆腐 京豆富 不二乃) would be my first-ever tofu cuisine experience.
The tofu specialty restaurant is located on the 11th floor of the station but don't expect much of a view here.
It was a really cold afternoon so we started off with some piling hot tea first, along with a small glass of soy milk.
The multi-course feast began with a milky broth with daikon among other seasonal vegetables.
Next was a whole platter of dishes made with Oboro tofu (soft, freshly made tofu).
The appetizers were a lot of fun. Apart from the chilled tofu, sesame tofu and fresh yuba sashimi, it also came with a small "bacon and egg" dish made primary with beans and tofu. Cute!
Deep-fried tofu and taro croquette with a small salad. Love the deep-fried lotus roots!
Warm and fluffy Oboro tofu! I thought the tofu would be rich in beany flavor but not the case at all.
Leek and Konjac skewers topped with different kinds of miso sauce.
Dessert was a combination of tofu cheesecake and panna cotta.
