Kyotofu Fujino at JR Kyoto Isetan 豆腐 京豆富 不二乃 (Kyoto, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

We have been dragging our luggage around since early morning. After traveling north to Shin Osaka Station, we waited around for the right train to hop on and by the time we arrived in Kyoto, it was already 1pm. Thankfully, I have a pack of sandwich I picked up from Osaka Station to keep me warm.

The entire journey from Osaka to Kyoto took a little longer than I thought but I was really looking forward to Kyoto.

Rather than going outside Kyoto Station, we decided to have a quick lunch while we were still at JR Kyoto Isetan.

Kyotofu Fujino at JR Kyoto Isetan (豆腐 京豆富 不二乃) would be my first-ever tofu cuisine experience.

The tofu specialty restaurant is located on the 11th floor of the station but don't expect much of a view here.

It was a really cold afternoon so we started off with some piling hot tea first, along with a small glass of soy milk.

The multi-course feast began with a milky broth with daikon among other seasonal vegetables.

Next was a whole platter of dishes made with Oboro tofu (soft, freshly made tofu).

The appetizers were a lot of fun. Apart from the chilled tofu, sesame tofu and fresh yuba sashimi, it also came with a small "bacon and egg" dish made primary with beans and tofu. Cute!

Deep-fried tofu and taro croquette with a small salad. Love the deep-fried lotus roots!

Warm and fluffy Oboro tofu! I thought the tofu would be rich in beany flavor but not the case at all.

Leek and Konjac skewers topped with different kinds of miso sauce.

Dessert was a combination of tofu cheesecake and panna cotta.

I thought the dishes from a traditional tofu meal would be more delicate than what was offered this afternoon but nevertheless it was quite an interesting dining experience (though it didn't do nearly enough to convince me to become a vegan).
