Spasso Italian Bar Restaurant (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★☆☆☆

A few of us were flying out before the Christmas weekend so we decided to throw our Christmas party a little earlier this year. There were a number of names being thrown around as the venue of our party but because of our rather late start, we were left with just one "real" option here - Spasso Italian Bar and Restaurant which I haven't visited in years.

Spasso has stepped away from the fine dining scene since they relocated to Tsim Sha Tsui East 4 years ago. These days, they are more about hearty Italian food which we thought would be perfect since we would be doing a lot of (food) sharing in the party.

Margherita ($168) - I thought both pizza were pretty darn good. The Margherita with
tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil leaves was simple but fairly tasty.

Parma ($228) - The only difference between this and the Margherita were the arugula and parma ham on top. I still like the ones at Paper Moon a little more but this was more than okay.

Spaghetti Bolognese ($188) - We ordered this mainly for the kids and they liked it a lot. The freshly made pasta was pretty nice and just a bit of wagyu beef ragout and bechamel already turned it into something special for the kids.

Lobster linguini ($288) - We had this when we were here last time and weren't overly impressed by both the presentation and taste. Four years have passed us by and I was expecting some improvement along the way but unfortunately, it didn't happen. The pasta, sauce and pieces of Boston lobster (or lack of them), they were all wrong. Definitely could do without this dish.

US Beef tenderloin ($328) - Someone took a couple of slices of this char grilled beef tenderloin before I could take the picture. I thought the steak looked a little rubbery but turned out it tasted alright (Borderline pass). However, I did notice everyone seemed to like the French fries more.

Crispy suckling pig ($238) - Always a crowd pleaser. The traditional Sardinian style slow-roasted suckling pig flavored with fresh Mirto leaves is one of Spasso's signature dishes and it did not disappoint. But too little too late (after a number of so-so dishes including some without photos/comments such as a certain sea bass dish).

I was hoping for some improvement from our last dining experience here but that didn't really materialize. We did all have a nice time catching up. Now, it's time to pack our bags and get ready for our Christmas getaway!
