Victoria Duck 城中鴨子 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

After temporarily closing down for repair the last few months, M&C Duck finally re-opened its doors, albeit with a new name - Victoria Duck.

I'm not entirely sure if the name change has anything to do with a certain fast food joint, which also resulted in Chef Alvin Leung's MC Kitchen renaming as MIC Kitchen a number of years ago. And so the rumor said at the time.

I like the new décor. Very elegant and modern, which is really right up my alley.

Look at all these ducks hanging there getting ready to be roasted.

These fat ducks are what we came here for in the first place.

Lobster soup with scallops (帶子龍蝦湯) ($78) - A fusion dish to start off our meal. The lobster bisque was very "western style", which was matched up nicely with a bit of bamboo shoots. Not bad.

Pan-fried baby oyster, duck egg (土鴨蛋脆煎蚵仔) ($128) - The crispy pancakes made with duck egg and baby oyster were very aromatic. I could smell the fragrance way before our server put the dish on our table.

Underneath the crispy crust made with duck egg and flour were baby oysters and leeks, complemented wonderfully by the sweetness of hoisin sauce. Easily beating out the Peking duck as the best dish of the night.

Barbecued Peking duck (烤北京填鴨) (half bird $180) - Very generous portion. I like the fact that the crispy skin came with lots of duck meat as well.

The pancake was nice and thin too. Yum~ (Perhaps we haven't had Peking duck for a while?)

Stir-fried Shanghai noodles, shredded pork, cabbage (上海粗炒麵) ($118) - Wrapping things up was stir-fried Shanghai noodles with pork and cabbage. This came with surprisingly good "wok hei". A little bit on the salty side but very tasty.

Victoria Duck has always been a very good source for delicious Chinese food in Harbour City (even before their renovation). It's always been a matter of whether we can get in without waiting for at least an hour. But with the recent social unrest and subsequent drop in visiting tourists, we were surprised to get in around 6pm without much of a lineup.
