A Walk in Tai Kwun, Hong Kong's newest arts and culture centre

For years, we've been hearing about the opening of Tai Kwun (大館), the city's new arts and culture centre. After numerous delays, it's finally ready to open to the general public at the end of May.

Housed at the former Central Police Station, Tai Kwun is arguably the biggest restoration project ever in Hong Kong. Starting this July, it will be home to exhibition, museum, restaurants, cafes, shops and more.

Some former prison cells in the former Victoria Prison on display here, adding to the nostalgic journey back to the colonial days.

An outdoor playground which used to be used by prisoners.

A number of restaurants and cafes already opened at Tai Kwun including Old Bailey (奧卑利), a charming modern Chinese restaurant paying homage to the culinary traditions of Jiangnan which we had the pleasure of having lunch at today (more on that later).

I found the balcony at Old Bailey a good place to chill out and unwind after a busy week at work.

Hong Kong needs more places like this where we can all bring our kids out to embrace our heritage and culture.
