Things were going so smoothly until after we got airborne. First, we were told by our pilot that he was requested to circle around Taoyuan International Airport due to some seriously busy air traffic. Then, there was the huge lineup at the immigration. By the time that we finally managed to get out of the arrival hall, we were already two hours behind our schedule. So, instead of a late lunch, we're pretty much looking at a very early dinner.
But first, we had to check into our hotel. A quick shower later, we met up again and ventured over to my favorite patisserie in Da'an district - Quelques Pâtisseries (某某。甜點) which was just a 5-minute walk from our hotel.
Their tea salon is always jam-packed that dine-in is almost never an option here (even on a Friday afternoon at 5PM).
Rather than waiting in line, we decided to simply get something on the go.
Ti-Kuan-Yin Tea Chocolate Tart (鐵觀音巧克力塔) - I knew I had to get this one out of the way at some point on this trip so why not do it fresh off the plane?
The crust, I thought, was once again firm with a nice buttery crunch. But what made it so special (at least for me) was the chocolate filling which was so rich, dense and creamy. The ti-kuan-yin tea infused chocolate ganache also proved to the difference maker here, working wonders to balance the bittersweet chocolate ganache. Very tasty.
Honey Whiskey Cheese Cake (蜂蜜威士忌起司蛋糕) - This, I was having for the first time and I had mixed feelings about it. The cheesecake itself was pretty nice. Light and not over-the-top cheesy but the whiskey flavor was a bit on the dominant side which kind of pushed the honey aside.
It was nice catching up with some of my favorite desserts in Taipei. Now, we just need to figure out where to have our early dinner.
P.S. I just realized that Quelques Pâtisseries' wonderful desserts are available through Ubereats. Perhaps next time in Taipei, I don't need to venture over for my favorite pastries.
