A specialist in beef noodles, Jiu Wu offers two signature broths to go with their patented hand cut noodles.
Before making the big decision, it's always wise to first check out the goods. They have all the goodies sitting on a couple of trays right in front of the open kitchen including their beef intestine, beef offal, stinking tofu, radish and marinated eggs.
Now that I have got the information I needed, time to fill out the order form and pass it along to our server (NT$20 to super-size the noodles? Are you kidding me?).
Signature 3-in-1 noodle soup (招牌三合一麵) (NT$250) - This came with beef tenderloin, beef tendon and beef offal but like most noodle soup, the heart and soul came from the rich broth which was made with tons of beef bones and herbs (boiled at least 8 hours). Not surprisingly, it's really flavorful (but not salty).
I thought the broth was really nice making the hand cut noodles and braised beef tendon even more tasty. But the beef intestines were a bit chewy, same for the beef tenderloin.
Wonton with shrimp in Shanghai chili sauce (鮮蝦紅油抄手) (NT$100) - The chili oil was surprisingly not as spicy as I expected.
Despite the average wrapper, this was fairly tasty thanks to the filling full of fresh shrimp meat.
Duck blood pudding (鴨血) (NT$50) - I haven't had this for a while, still very addictive. Love the homemade sauce for the extra kick.
I always enjoy visiting these small family-run restaurants. It proves once again that it really doesn't take very expensive, top-notch ingredients to make a delicious meal.
