ELK is a Japanese-style pancake café that specializes in, well Japanese style pancakes. They're not as popular as Café Gram or A Happy Pancake but they have been flexing their muscles expanding their presence in Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Nagoya and Nyogo since they opened their first shop 5 years ago.
This is a very small 3-story shop they have here in Kyoto. The adjective "3-story" seems to be a little contradicting with small but once you see these stairs, you get the idea how much they crave for space.
Each level is tastefully decorated like somebody's home. Warm and cozy but like I said before pretty small.
With a bit of effort, we climbed all the way to the top floor and had my nugget settled down (Luckily, I didn't forget to order first so I didn't have to go all the way down again).
ELK's bread and butter are their pancakes and they have a very good tiramisu pancake (¥1,200) served with whip cream, strawberries and tiramisu sauce on the side.
The pancakes were real fluffy although I thought the tiramisu sauce could have been a bit more flavorful.
More tasty was the original pancake with whip cream and honey (¥900). Somehow I found them to be a little more fluffy and the honey was just icing on the cake right there for a nice source of sweetness. This one is highly recommended.
We ordered the "pasta of the day" for our little one, which was a simple pasta with a bit of cream sauce, mushroom and bacon.
ELK recently opened at the Q-Mall in Tennoji, Osaka. It's a much bigger facility with a lot more to offer especially in their drinks department. Check them out when you happen to visit Tennoji.
