Udon & Oden Anpuku あんぷく (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★★☆

The skyscraping Toranomon Hills finally opened in 2014 as the second tallest building in Tokyo. Despite its location in the heart of Toranomon (literally means "Tiger's Gate"), a district better known as the home to many corporate headquarters, it's still attracting a fair amount of tourists including us.

Toranomon Hills is primarily a commercial building with about four floors reserved for restaurants and cafés. There's also a brand new hotel, Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills, located inside the towering complex.

After we checked out this new attraction, we decided we might as well have dinner here. Quickly scanning through the directory, fusion café Udon & Oden Anpuku inadvertently caught our eyes.

Udon & Oden Anpuku is a small noodle café specializing in innovative Japanese-Italian fusion dishes such as "Udon carbonara".

There are six interesting udons available on the menu. They are udon noodles prepared with traditional or contemporary Italian cooking techniques. Udon with the classic carbonara sauce (with onsen egg) was one of the favorites here.

First before we started eating, time to put on our aprons!

This one quickly became my favorite dish here - Genovese cream udon with shrimp and avocado. The soup base was so creamy and savory and it meshed extremely well with the udon noodles.

The mushroom cream and grilled chicken udon was also a very nice dish. Again the sauce was super creamy and flavorful giving the udon an irresistibly rich flavor.

We had a nice visit to Toranomon Hills. Time to head back to Shinjuku for more shopping now!
