Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama とんかつ まい泉 青山本店売店 (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Lady Ironchef has always been one of my favorite food bloggers so when he speaks, I generally listen.

And when he declares Tonkatsu Maisen as the best tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo, of course we had to pay them a visit on this trip. They have many outlets across Tokyo but their flagship shop in Aoyama is supposed to be "the one" to visit.

Although Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama is just a few blocks behind Omotesando Hills, believe me it's not that easy to locate. If you're trying to find Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama for the first time, my advice to you is very simple. After you pass Omotesando Hills, look for this small alley.

Look up and find this logo on the electric pole. Keep going and follow the signs (on the poles) along the path.

Then, you should find Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama in about 7-8 minutes.

Since we had sushi for lunch already, we decided to just sample some of their pork cutlet and oysters at their take-out counter.

We had their "tender loin cutlet" (or fillet cutlet) which was supposed to be their premium pork cutlet and it was not bad. Very tasty though I thought the texture could have been a little more juicy and moist. Perhaps these ones at the take-out counter have been deep fried for a while?

On the other hand, the deep fried oysters were perfect. They were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, just the way we liked it.

I had to digest these real quick coz Pierre Hermé is next!
