We had a nice stopover at Kokura (小倉) where we visited Kokura Castle (小倉城), Riverwalk Kitakyushu (北九州河畔步行街), and Kokura Chuo Shopping Street (小倉中央商店街). With those highlights wrapped up, it was time for one last stop before heading over to Beppu (別府) — Kokura JR Station.
But just as we were about to move on, we stumbled upon ViTO Kokura-ten (小倉店), and little nugget simply refused to leave without a scoop of their gelato despite the freezing temperatures (OK, I'm exaggerating a little here 😆😆)!
There were 20 flavors available but unfortunately, not the more unique ones I had previously tried at now-defunct ViTO Tenjin, where flavors like black sesame and lavender really stood out.
This wasn’t my first encounter with ViTO, so I knew exactly what to expect. The pistachio (right) was, once again, silky smooth and packed with nutty flavor.
The “lait” (milk) gelato (left) that the little one picked was decent — but just as I warned him before he made his choice, it wasn’t anything particularly special or memorable.
Now it’s time to hit the road again. We’ve still got an hour and a half of driving ahead of us before we can finally soak in our onsen bath in Beppu!
