Cafe & Dining Minori Minoru (Oita, JAPAN) ★★☆☆☆

The first thing we did upon arriving in Ōita City was to explore its shopping streets, which had been bustling with life during our visit back in 2019. Unfortunately, that vibrant energy was noticeably missing this afternoon. Many of the shops were either closed or completely vacant, creating an atmosphere that felt rather depressing.

Hoping for a better experience, we made our way to Ōita JR Station, thinking it might be a livelier and more pleasant place to spend time. While there was indeed a larger crowd, the dining and shopping options turned out to be somewhat underwhelming as well.

Just as we were about to leave and head back to Beppu, we stumbled upon Café & Dining Minori Minoru inside AMU Plaza. At first glance, it seemed like a promising spot for a relaxing afternoon tea but that hope quickly faded. The menu was surprisingly short, and more than a few items including the French toast we had our eyes on — were already sold out at 3pm.

Mom decided to try their Japanese parfait that we thought was chestnut ice-cream but it turned out to be something entirely different — possibly pumpkin? All in all, it was just a weird experience.

That said, the silver lining was that we managed to burn over an hour there, bringing us closer to dinner time. So while the afternoon didn’t go quite as planned, at least not all was lost.
