After an eventful few hours at the Oita Marine Palace Aquarium (also known as Umitamago 大分海洋宮殿水族館・うみたまご), we drove into the heart of Oita City (大分市) as planned. As soon as we parked our car, we found ourselves just steps away from Oita’s shopping streets. And we were already in striking distance of our first stop in the city — Truffle Donut.
Originated from Tottori Prefecture in 2022, Truffle Donuts are known for using truffle oil and salt in their pumpkin-infused dough, creating a unique sweet-savory flavor that differs from traditional donuts.
This branch of Truffle Donut was only a stone’s throw from our parking arcade. Seeing that the area was completely quiet, I thought we’d have all the flavors to ourselves. But nope, these were for display only!
Truffle Donut with whipped cream (278 yen) – Maybe business hasn’t been great lately, because they weren’t even offering any other flavors. This was the only one available. It was either take it or leave it. And of course, I took it.
The dough was incredibly soft and airy. I couldn’t quite tell whether the white truffle flavor came from the dough or the whipped cream, but it definitely elevated the entire donut.
Just look at that cloud of cream in the middle! So decadent — and I loved it~!
As for little nugget, they had an amazing time at Umitamago. The live walrus show was the highlight of the visit from what I heard from him.
