Moments Together 十里湘薈 Elements (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★☆☆☆☆

We finally got back to the normal swing of things. This weekend, we had to get little nugget his boy scout uniform which has been long overdue. On our way to Hong Kong Scout Centre, we decided to stop by Elements Shopping Mall for a quick meal. 

Moments Together (十里湘薈), an upscale restaurant specializing in Shanghainese and Hunan cuisine, has been on my to-do list for a while now and today, it was time to check it off that list. As it turns out, there were quite a few dishes which were sold out and on top of that, we tried to avoid all the spicy ones for little guy. We were left with very limited choices.

Uji matcha turnip puff pastry (宇治蘿蔔絲酥餅) ($78) – Well, this wasn't spicy. The puff pastry was really nice and flaky on the outside, with strips of turnip inside. I had high hopes for the effects coming from the Uji matcha powder sprinkled on top of the pastry but unfortunately, it did very little to enhance the flavors.

Xiao long bao (鮮肉小籠包) ($78) – Decent but nothing to write home about.

Wok fried Iberico pork with long sweet chilli pepper (湘椒炒黑毛豬肉) ($198) – We looked all over the menu but couldn't find many non-spicy main dishes so we ended up ordering this. Our server promised that it wasn't going to be too spicy but guess what, it was almost burning my tongue.

This wasn't the satisfying meal I was expecting to close out our weekend. The selection in the food menu was really limited and I thought the service was very mechanical with the staff looking more like robots than humans. To add insult to injury, we were seated at a table right outside the private room and for some reason, the door was kept wide open throughout our meal, and the amount of noise coming from that group, it literally caused excruciating pain to our ears. All in all, a horrible horrible experience.
