Visiting Qing Chun Perma (慶春樸門) at MixC World (萬象天地) was driven more by curiosity than necessity. At 3pm, it was really too early for supper but the fact that they immediately had a table for us was something that we simply couldn't turn down.
Hailed from Hangzhou, Qing Chun Perma serves up vegetarian dishes with a modern twist inspired by Chinese traditions and Southeast Asian flavors.
After stepping through the small zen garden in front of the restaurant, there was the open kitchen directly facing the waiting area.
Following a 10-minute walk, we were finally seated.
Black truffle flatbread (黑松露薄餅) (¥38) – The flatbread was really crispy working well with the truffled mushrooms inside.
Braised taro with chrysanthemum (桂花荔浦芋頭) (¥6) – The braised taro from Lipu (荔浦) was incredibly soft and tender, with the chrysanthemum honey adding to the sweetness of the dish.
Qing Chun steamed rice cake (慶春米糕) (¥26) – A signature dish here obviously, as the restaurant continuously played a video at the reception area showcasing its preparation process.
Here's the video in case you're interested.....
The filling was made with a mix of beans and it wasn't too sweet. I thought not bad.
Braised tofu with morel mushrooms (羊肚菌燒豆腐) (¥42) – Pretty decent.
Noodle soup with assorted mushrooms (雲南野菌麵) (¥38) – The clear broth was made with wild mushrooms from Yunan.
Vegetarian chicken nuggets (香草素雞塊) (¥28) – Tasted a lot like McDonald's chicken nuggets but they were actually made of bean curds. Served with ketchup sauce.
In typical fashion (in Shenzhen), we once again ended up ordering more than we could chew! Despite grappling with digestion issues (given our recent lunch just a few hours ago), we were all too thrilled to check this off our list. Was it truly as remarkable as some of the reviews suggested? Well, that's really subjective and hinges on how you perceive as a good dining experience.
