Lin Man Kee 連文記冰室 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★☆☆☆

Hidden on the mezzanine floor of an old industrial building near Lai Chi Kok station, Lin Man Kee (連文記冰室) has always been on my radar screen but without creating much of an itch for me to scratch. However, this morning, I decided it was about time that we gave it a chance.

This looked more like a canteen inside one of those historic buildings (lots of those in Kwun Tong).

I was eager to check out their iced milk tea first-hand and it turned out to be quite decent. The tea base was pretty strong but there was enough milk for the right balance. Not bad.

But the silky smooth milk tea was about all there is to this visit. The instant noodles with satay beef was pretty bad and I didn't get to finish more than half of it (broth was plain like water and beef was rubbery).

The fried egg actually looked alright but the toast was a bit soggy.

So much for making a strong first impression! Perhaps, I should stick with the usual suspects for the time being or wait for the opening of this new dig in July?
