We had a brutal time dining at 碼頭見潮汕小海鮮 (領展中心城店) last time around with our parents calling the shots. They ended up ordering a bunch of Cantonese dishes rather than Chiu Chow delicacies leaving us a little unsatisfied with the outcome. But I decided to give it one more chance and needless to say, I will make sure that I'm the one calling the shots tonight.
This is decorated like a food market with different food stalls specializing in different types of dishes.
It's very easy to navigate here. Just take one of those small baskets the same way we get a trolley at a supermarket and start collecting the tokens with the dish's name on it (tokens are all placed next to the dish). When we're done, we simply pass the basket to our server. Well, I can do that!
Chilled firefly squid (凍燈光魷) (¥49) – I could tell the firefly squids were pretty fresh and just a bit of sweet soy already made it very delicious.
Pig’s stomach with pickled vegetables (酸菜豬肚煲) (¥62) – The broth was a little peppery but always enjoy pig’s stomach with a bit of spicy kick.
Chiu Chow style marinated meat platter (滷水拼盤) (¥62) – This came a mix of soy marinated goodness including goose meat, pig’s ear, pig’s intestine, tofu and egg. Not bad especially when you factor in the price.
Stir-fried razor clams with ginger and scallions (薑蔥炒蟶子) (¥78) – One of my favorite seafood dish tonight featuring some nice crunch from the razor clams and lovely kick delivered by the ginger and scallions.
Steamed scallops with garlic and vermicelli (蒜蓉粉絲蒸元貝) (¥59) – Surprised the kids didn’t like it but I thought the scallop, albeit a little small in size, was fairly tasty. Love the amount of chopped garlic on top but they've gotta to give us more vermicelli cuz most of us are crazy about vermicelli.
Steamed prawns with garlic and vermicelli (蒜蓉粉絲焗大蝦) (¥188) – A dish over $100 which is rarely seen here. Unlike the scallop dish, this had way too much vermicelli and not nearly enough prawns to share among the eleven of us. Not bad but not going to order this again for our next visit.
Sautéed cabbage flowers (拍蒜炒白菜花) (¥32) – I am starting to like the wide variety of vegetables available in Mainland. This came with some lovely crunch.
Steamed dumplings with red beans (紅豆粿) (¥15) – Not the greatest presentation but not a bad way to wrap up the meal with some sweets that were not too sweet for the palate. And it cost a mere $15!
This turned out to be a totally different experience comparing to our last visit cuz we finally got to enjoy some Chiu Chow specialties. It was also a very nice feeling knowing that most dishes here were comfortably priced under $100 making it easy on our wallet.
