The pandemic has changed the way we lived for the past few years and it has made a lasting impact on our daily lives going forward. For one, we are relying more on take-away food than ever and a lot of us including myself have cut down on our spending on fancy food. Restaurants and cafés I used to frequent in the past are no longer my routines anymore. One classic example is Fine Foods at Royal Garden Hotel.
This was one of the places I used to love getting my sweet treats from.
They still have some of the best French pastries in town judging from the look of it.
Mango and black sesame cream cake ($62) – I decided to bring a couple of these pastries home including this mango and black sesame cream cake. Inside the chocolate crust were mango cream paired with crispy clusters of black sesame, sesame sponge and toppings of fresh cream and mango cubes. Pretty decent but not really something mind-blowing.
Pistachio cherry ($65) – This was by far the better of the duo. I thought we did a pretty good job carrying the cakes around town this afternoon but it looked like that the Pistachio cherry cake had suffered some bumps and bruises along the way. I did my best to patch things up a bit before taking the photos but...
The moist pistachio sponge cake and delicate pistachio mousse came with a hidden centre of cherry gelée and strawberry mousse. The lovely acidity from the cherry and strawberry really helped to cut through the sweetness and add contrast to the dessert.
