I promised little one a Japanese ramen lunch before kicking off our shopping spree in Tennoji but we were in a real tough spot since the area is not really known as a culinary hotspot.
I decided to try our luck at the restaurants on the top levels of Abeno Harukas and guess what I found – Kotan Ramen (古潭拉麵), a ramen chain famous for its Chinese-style ramen noodles (中華麺).
Kotan Ramen (古潭拉麵) – They have different variations of this, one with a salt-based broth and another one with miso but the original was a soy sauce based one that everybody with the exception of Jelloman took on.
A lot of Chinese-style ramen tend to use buckwheat noodles but this is just egg noodles. I really wasn't a fan of Chinese-style ramen noodles because of its relatively light broth. I love a rich and aromatic that can carry the noodles well.
Fried rice – Many of these Chinese-style ramen shops will have this on their menu. The fried rice came with great wok hei (鑊氣) and the diced vegetables provided the dish with some lovely crunch. Easily, the best dish of the afternoon (by a mile).
