Last week when I asked little one what he wanted from this trip to Osaka, his answer was simple. A bowl of ramen noodles everyday! So, I went on to do a thorough research on the ramen shops in the area where we're staying. Turns out there are no less than 15 ramen shops around!
I promised little nugget we'd visit a ramen shop once we got ourselves organized in the hotel. Time to keep my promise!
So, here we are having our first meal of the trip at Komugi no Ikirumichi (大阪南船場 小麦と生きる道), a ramen shop just 100 metres from the entrance of our hotel, famous for their tori paitan, which is a rich chicken-based noodle soup.
Chicken paitan ramen (鶏白湯拉麵) – The signature ramen here and not surprisingly their most popular dish. The extraordinarily flavorful soup was made with a special breed of Hokkaido-raised spring chicken.
This came with a layer of wonderfully rich, creamy cappuccino-style foam on top.
The flat buckwheat noodles are freshly made in-house daily. This is where the cappuccino-like bubbles come in, to help the rich broth cling to the noodles as they are lifted off the bowl.
The chicken fillet was pretty tender. I like the astringent flavor from the raw purple onion adding something extra to the broth.
One down, seven more to go.....
"Hurry up daddy! Let's finish up quickly so we can go to the Pokémon center!"
Miso infused chicken paitan ramen (濃厚鶏白湯味噌蕎麥麵) – Jelloman wanted something different. According to her, the broth was a little salty but I was too busy enjoying my original tori paitan.
This was a very good start to our trip. Now, time to explore Shinsaibashi (心齋橋) before the shops close at 8pm!
