We had quite a tour around different suburbs in the north, west and south of Brisbane this afternoon. An action-packed itinerary in a little over 5 hours. Afterwards, we met up with the family of Jelloman's friend near her home in Sunnybank for dinner. It was only around 6pm but restaurants were already starting to fill up so we were fortunate to find ourselves a table at Akaichi Yakiniku (赤一), a highly coveted Japanese yakiniku restaurant in the southern suburb. I jokingly told her friend that at 6pm, most people in Hong Kong were still scrambling to finish up at work on a weeknight so an early dinner is often a luxury that we couldn't afford.
Like most upscale Japanese restaurants in the western world, this was run by Chinese people.
Tofu salad – The tofu salad was topped with cherry tomatoes and bonito flakes, finished off with the usual sesame dressing.
Karaage chicken – Love the thin batter.
Premium wagyu combo ladder – They sure know how to make an entrance with this "wooden ladder" container which we have seen many many times in Japan and Hong Kong. Something for IG and the social media!
There were different cuts of beef from the combo and honestly, I couldn't distinguish the parts once they finished on the grill. But I thought other than the tongues, everything tasted the way it should be...
Time for bed so we finished up early and hit the road again. Many thanks for our good friend for driving us back to the hotel. Tomorrow, we have an exciting adventure ahead with Jelloman as the designated driver for our day trip to Gold Coast.
