One of the nicest things about little nugget's primary school interviews is the chance to visit some of the places we haven't been to for a long long time. Jelloman and I haven't visited Stanley (赤柱) since we were still dating but we got the perfect opportunity for a walk down memory lane this afternoon.
As only one parent was allowed into the premise, I decided to stroll around Stanley before sitting down at Pane e Latte, an artisanal Italian bakery cafe just opened in July by Pirata Group who is also behind culinary gems like Pici Pasta Bar, Pirata and The Optimist.
Located in the heart of Stanley Village, Pane e Latte (literally means Bread and Milk in Italian) takes full advantage of its seaside location making this almost like a weekend get-away to Europe.
The bakery cafe has a no-reservation policy so it took me some time to get ourselves a table.
The more time I spend inside the place, the more it feels like I'm actually somewhere in Southern Europe.

The food menu at Pane e Latte combines all-day dining options (breakfast?) with coffee and something for the sweet-toothed.
Rather than reading from the menu, I decided to take a look at the pastry counter. Wow!
Their signature croissant bomboloni ($42) is a must-try here.
Yeah, I had my coffee fix this morning already. Perhaps a hot chocolate?
This looked almost like a cronut (hybrid of croissant and donut), and a perfectly baked one too.
I haven't had one of these for months!
This was very flaky with loads of custard cream inside. Decadent!
At this point, my little one has just arrived after his interview. I told him about the gelateria hidden in the basement and without hesitation, he started running towards, guess where.
It was a totally different world there in the basement. 5 different homemade gelato flavors (today, it was raspberry, hazelnut, mango.....) and my little nugget's eyes lit up when he saw the cotton candy machine.
Of course, he won't miss the cotton candy for the world!
He didn't want to mess up his cotton candy!?
Maybe not........
Little one's battle with his cotton candy and gelato allowed me time for another sweet treat. This time, I picked a more traditional Italian sweet treat, hazelnut chocolate bomboloni ($45). It was very similar to its American counterparts (American doughnuts!). Very spongy with super sweet toppings. I think I like the croissant bomboloni a little better.
Driving past the beach here brought back a ton of memories. Those were the days.....
The Pirata Group always promises good value-for-money and that was the case again at Pane e Latte. We just wish the location could be a little more centralized so we could afford to visit a little more often. But this week, the owner of Pirata has released plans that they would expand the Pane e Latte brand hopefully by 2022. It's going to be awesome if we can get one next to our home!
