Choo Choo (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★☆☆☆

It’s Saturday. That means a hectic schedule is about to unfold, first with little one’s swimming lesson, followed by his drama class and wrapping things up just after noon time will be his fencing lesson. Talk about a productive morning of work.

After we dropped little guy off for his drama class, Jelloman and I decided to explore this area of Cheung Sha Wan which we knew nothing about (still no clue). I recalled Holy Chef used to be a staple here before bowing out a few years ago. Other than that, Choo Choo is pretty much the only place I know around here. And we had less than an hour to burn.

The lure here has always been the illusion of eating inside a running train but that special effect was unavailable this afternoon thanks to some “technical” issues.

Despite there are only less than 10 customers here, the restaurant seems to have problem coping with it (comparing to last night, where Les Papilles also had the same level of manpower, one chef and one waiting staff, they did a much much better job than here). Service was slow to a crawl and every customer was starting to get real impatient (and hungry). That included us who only had less than an hour to spare before little one is up for his next event.

Finally, my spaghetti arrived. The pasta was tossed in a rich and creamy sauce similar to a lobster bisque. We could smell the fragrance a few feet away but once I had my first bite, I realized something was wrong. The lobster sauce was still a little cold (not even lukewarm) but I have to dmit, it worked reasonably well with the warm pasta. Whether it was done by esign, we would never find out.

This wasn’t a good dining experience at all. The restaurant was obviously shorthanded and the duo had trouble bringing the pace up to a reasonable level. To add insult to injury, our server kept messing up our orders. My iced lemon tea became iced lemon water while Jelloman’s hot lemon water became hot lemon tea. Just silly mistakes. But if a restaurant can’t cope with less than 10 customers at the same time, it normally won't last very long……
