Ishiya Café at Shiroi Koibito Park (Sapporo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

We still have one unfinished business in Sapporo so once we got our rental car ready, we quickly drove up to Shiroi Koibito Park for a quick tour.

There were autumn leaves everywhere in the theme park, which is also home of the chocolate factory (by Ishiya company) behind the most popular sweets ever produced in Hokkaido - Shiroi Koibito (白い恋人, literally means "white lover"), a European-style cookie with white or milk chocolate filling.

This is a very popular tourist attraction especially for those with kids due to its fairytale world setting.

With Halloween coming up in two days, not surprisingly they were well prepared for the occasion.

Of course, we had to check out Ishiya's Chocolate Factory and its souvenir shop to get ourselves some of the most beloved chocolate cookies from Hokkaido.

The souvenir shop also doubled as a pastry shop and there were about 10 different layered cakes to choose from, all of which were sold in a plastic container. Not the most appealing presentation but they were surprisingly decent. We had their cheesecake (left) and chestnut cake (right), and while they were a little overpriced, I thought both exceeded my low expectation.

A trip to Shiroi Koibito Park is not complete without checking out their second-floor cafe.

The cafe offers small bites such as chocolate tarts, quiche and even small pasta dish but you will find that the majority of customers come here for these - their signature soft serve which comes in milk, chocolate and milk+chocolate flavors. The one to get is definitely the twist cone with both milk and chocolate soft serve, which has got to be one of the best in Sapporo.

Everybody was quite satisfied with the brief stint here. Now, it's time to head south to Niseko. It's almost a 2-hour drive from the park so I better get myself a quick nap on the car.
