Our last order of business in Valence was a walk down memory lane.
It has been nearly 8 years since we visited Pâtisserie Guillet for the first time following an impressive lunch at the legendary Maison Pic. This time around, little nugget joined us as we enjoyed some of the best sweet treats at one of the most popular French pastry shops in Valence.

A number of Pâtisserie Guillet's signature desserts were on display including including Le Plaisir, a chocolate mousse cake with a layer of Madagascar vanilla soufflé cream on top.
What initially seemed like an elevated French lemon tart turned out to be far more sophisticated than that. There were creamy lemon mousse, lime cream flavored with basil, Corsican lemon peel confit and basil all sitting on a base of Viennese biscuit also flavored with basil. But what really impressed me the most was the layer of crunchy praline with caramelized nuts hidden in the middle giving the dessert some really exciting bite. On top of that, we have the basil adding a balancing touch to the acidity of the lemon mousse. A really clever and well-designed piece of French pastry.
Le Plaisir (€4.8) – Of course, a trip to Pâtisserie Guillet won't be complete without having their Le Plaisir. Here, the Madagascar vanilla soufflé cream was beautifully matched with a layer of Madagascar grand cru chocolate mousseline with a caramelized Provençal almond biscuit serving as the base. It was a well-balanced chocolate cake that would appeal not only to chocolate enthusiasts but also to those who aren't typically fond of chocolate.
Pistachio and raspberry eclair (€3.9) – I'm getting this pistachio and raspberry eclair for breakfast tomorrow. The fusion of the rich and fragrant pistachio cream with the fresh and tangy raspberry jam created an incredibly delectable experience for the palate. The choux pastry was simply perfect.
Yeah, I thought we were done in Valence but little one had another destination in mind.
