Tucked away on a quiet street away from the bustling historic centre of Avignon, La Tropézienne is a longstanding French patisserie focused on the tradition of crafting exquisite pastries, chocolates and savory snacks of the finest quality. Opened in 1935, the patisserie is named after one of their most popular pastries, La Tropézienne, a delicious brioche filled with two types of pastry cream and finished with a sprinkle of sugar atop.
Situated just a few steps from Avignon's attractions like Église Saint-Agricol, the pastry shop was very easily accessible by foot. After all, Avignon is a walking city.
I was lucky enough to step through those doors just before their closure. Not surprisingly, a few of their signature pastries were already long gone except for these giant La Tropézienne tarts.
I'm getting myself some sweet treats for tonight and thankfully, I still have some options.
Vanilla Raspberry (€4.1) – Underneath the raspberry coulis, we have a layer of rich flavored Madagascar vanilla mousse and a centre of raspberry compote sitting on an almond biscuit base.
I like the balance of sweetness and acidity there. It's simple but the timeless combination of vanilla and raspberry shines through.
