Des Gâteaux et du Pain is one of my top 10 patisseries in Paris and each time I arrive in the city, I would always try to find time for a quick visit. This trip is no exception.
Claire Damon, the female pastry chef behind Des Gâteaux et du Pain is known for her artistic sophistication and she loves incorporating fruits (strawberry and rhubarb, which is more of a vegetable) into her creations.
On this visit, they have a section dedicated to pastries made with strawberry, apricot and rhubarb.
Tarte Jardin Fraise (€8) – The strawberry garden tart composed of shortcrust pastry, cuillère biscuit lightly kissed with Kirsch, vanilla cream, strawberry compote, and fresh strawberries from Reims on top.
This was very characteristic of Chef Damon’s style. It's clean and fresh, with the right mix of acidity, and there was the balance between contrasting flavors and textures.
This weather was driving me nuts. Windy and really heavy rain. I had to carry my bag and umbrella with one hand and camera/iPhone with another to capture my journey every step of the way. It wasn't easy, especially the part about finding a spot to take a few shots of the pastry and then eventually taste it. It was particularly hard when a few of my usual spots were still taken up by the Summer Olympics festivity. 😆😆
